Bang Tao Beach is one of the longest beaches on Phuket Island with a western exposure, surf and sunsets. The soft sands of this open bay are fringed with Casuarina and coconut trees and this beach offers a mix of quiet seclusion in the southern areas and an Activities rich area associated with the sprawling 1,000 acre Phuket Laguna complex of seven major hotels where one can find beach rental sun loungers and umbrellas, windsurfing, golf, luxury spa treatments and horse riding. Residents and visitors can take advantage of the many restaurants, shopping and entertainment available within the Laguna complex.

There are accommodations available outside the Laguna complex at he bay's south end. Dry season swimming is excellent, and at the bay's north end is a smaller bay, almost completely enclosed, at the mouth of which is some fine coral. Plenty of places to eat, tour companies, and other tourist facilities available from the Laguna complex or in the nearby town of Cherng Talay.
